Claviere, Italy

Claviere is said to be Italy’s oldest resort, and judging by its appearance it's easy to see why. Not that its look is a mark of what is on offer her, as this happens to be a decent and popular resort only ten minutes away from the French resort of Montgenevre. Both resorts also form part of the ski circuit known as the Milky Way, which offers over 400km of marked pistes and takes in the resorts of Sauze D’Oulx, Sansicario, Sestriere and Cesana. The Milky Way is linked by an array of 91 lifts, with a lift-accesible height of over 2820 metres possible at Sestriere.

Claviere has long been a popular resort, one that attracts a large number of skiers from all over Italy and from neighbouring France. This often makes the place very busy, especially at weekends, however, don’t let this put you off because once you get up on to the slopes, time spent in lift queues is generally minimal.

You can easily board between Claviere, and its French neighbour, Montgenevre, on the same lift pass - which can also be used for the rest of the Milky Way circuit. The type of terrain on offer  is much the same wherever you choose to ride, and in the main will favour intermediate freeriders the most.
