Zoe Gillings, today produced her seasons best result so far finishing in 6th place at the latest round of the World Cup Snowboard cross series in Bad Gastein, Austria. Zoe started the competition yesterday with the qualification round where she displayed some excellent technical course racing finishing in 4th position overall ahead of todays finals.
Zoe quickly started today as she meant to go on by winning her first heat ensuring progression into the semi finals. Zoe had a good start out of the gate settling in behind the Olympic silver medallist Lindsey Jacobellis but following a minor mistake on one of the mid turns, Zoe was passed into 3rd place. Despite a last second attempt to pass into second place just before the line, Zoe just missed out finishing in third position. In the small final Zoe was up against the World No 1, Maelle Ricker (Can) Gulini (USA) and Francon (Switz). Zoe again produced another solid start out of the gate settling in behind Francon and in front of the World No 1, Ricker. Zoe made steady progress down the course finishing in second position just behind Francon resulting in an overall finish position of 6th place.

Zoe commented after the race, “Im really happy with todays result, especially with qualifying in 4th position yesterday. I’m really happy with my starts today as I have been practising these over the summer and I also beat the World No 1 who is one of the favourites for Gold in Vancouver in February, so overall im really happy with the result.”
Zoe now travels to Veysonnez, Switzerland for the next round of the World Cup series to be held on the 15th January.
